Brisbane Pubs - A Rough Guide
There are so many pubs in Brisbane its impossible to give a good overview of them all, but there are some watering holes definitely worth checking out if you're new in town, or just visiting and want to get an idea of where the locals go. The Royal Exchange Hotel (The 'RE') in Toowong is probablty the quintessential Brisbane pub, and also one of the most popular. If you want to know what's happening at any given time they even have a webcam on their website which allows you to watch the punters in real time (goodness knows why you'd want to though).
The Regatta Hotel is Brisbane's other quintessential pub, just down the road in the same suburb, they don't have a webcam on their site, but they do have games to play - it's amazing what a little competition can do! On the other side of town in Kangaroo Point, the Story Bridge Hotel has been quenching thirsts since 1886, and the view across the river to the city is amazing and the history of the place is well worth a read (including bomb shelters and cockroach racing). The Breakfast Creek Hotel is also a classic, if not over-commercialised establisment dating back to 1889. A list of the other pubs in town appears below..
